Winnipegged

I made a friend.

We played in Winnipeg in a venue called Ragpickers, which was actually on the 2nd floor of a thrift clothing store. The space was very cool, and the gear room was basically a library of used books. Nifty cats ran the joint and they seemed very committed to the promotion of independent music and making Winnipeg a good place. As we were coming into Winnipeg we found it pretty expansive, lots of large stores. But the downtown was still very old, lots of brick buildings and great spaces. I really dug it, and the vibe of the local people was super positive. Ate at a great cafe that had a guy passed-out drunk just inside the front door – unfortunately they were out of soup.

After the Winnipeg gig we packed up the Safari and headed south. As I write this we are on the Interstate in Wisconsin and it is 2 pm, we have been driving since 12:30 am and have about 2 more hours to go until we reach Chicago. The boarder was a pretty quick affair, they did pull us over and make us sit in one of the small white rooms that feels a lot like a holding cell while they searched the van for drugs, weapons and hidden produce. We were smart and ate all the apples before we left Winnipeg.
